Join to apply for the RIS Controller - US Pension & Risk Solutions role at MetLife Description and Requirements Summary of Position: As Director of RIS US Pensions/Risk Solutions, this person is responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for GAAP and STAT for these underlying products within the Retirement Income Solutions segment. This position will also lead and be responsible for all aspects of the accounting and reporting for the RIS STAT process, including MTL legal entity reporting requirements. This position reports to the AVP RIS Controller and manages a team of three. Core responsibilities include: Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial statement information for RIS US Pensions/Risk Solutions and supporting the total RIS segment, including SEC Filings, Quarterly Financial Supplements, US Statutory, and US GAAP Accounting. Overseeing controls, SOX compliance, and ensuring accurate and timely monthly and quarterly financial closes. Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial statement information for the RIS segment, including quarterly financial statements. Managing a team responsible for monthly/quarterly close deliverables, filings, and developing accounting playbooks to support initiatives within this complex sub-segment. Partnering with Internal Audit and Deloitte teams for audit scoping, planning, and remediation. Ensuring compliance with MetLife accounting policies across all RIS segment products. Implementing and maintaining financial controls, identifying operational efficiencies, and improving working practices related to financial reporting. Leading or participating in special projects as needed. Key Responsibilities Ensuring timely, accurate reporting and analysis for US Pensions/Risk Solutions products, including all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for US GAAP/SEC and STAT standards. Leading the RIS STAT process and MTL legal entity reporting, including preparing the MTL Board presentation package. Maintaining a robust financial control framework to prevent and detect inconsistencies, ensuring segregation of duties and compliance with policies. Escalating issues such as policy deviations, accounting concerns, or suspected fraud to the RIS Controller and CFO. Monitoring reconciliation processes, ensuring effective controls are in place. Collaborating with RIS CFO’s team, Actuarial, and other finance functions to develop risk assessment frameworks and support initiatives. Managing staffing, developing talent, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement. Ensuring the effective operation of financial controls, audits, and supporting processes for RIS products. Qualifications and Skills Work Experience: Minimum 10 years in accounting or finance roles. Effective communication skills, both written and oral. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of US GAAP and US STAT accounting standards; CPA preferred but not required. Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting. Business Skills and Competencies: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities. Strong partnership skills across business, legal, operational, actuarial, and finance teams. Excellent presentation skills for communicating complex financial concepts to senior stakeholders. Analytical skills to evaluate the financial and operational implications of business events. Focus on internal controls, linking operational activities to financial reporting and disclosures. Additional Information Salary ranges vary by location: NJ - $126,300 to $140,000; Tampa - $109,800 to $125,000.
