Overview The School Nutrition Administrator is responsible for all aspects of the school’s food service operations to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school cafeteria, providing nutritious and appealing meals to students and staff. They ensure that the school cafeteria provides students with nutritious and well-balanced meals, while also making sure all food safety regulations are adhered to. The School Nutrition Administrator responsibilities include supervising cafeteria staff, preparing and serving meals, maintaining inventory, adhering to health and safety regulations, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. Department: Facilities Management Job Title: School Nutrition Administrator Salary: Hourly ($18 - $19) Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Mon- Fri); some weekends as needed Reports to: Facilities Manager Responsibilities Produce and maintain work schedules and production records. Work with Nutrition Chef/Cook to schedule employees based on business needs Direct daily activities in the cafeteria. Ensure setting up food preparation serving lines. Ensure cooking, setting up and serving food items to students and staff. In tandem with the Nutrition Chef/Cook ensure that appropriate quantities of food and supplies are available through daily orders and periodic inventories. Ensure inventory control of food items and supplies. Ensure preparing school meals that comply with state and federal regulations and the requirements of the National School Lunch Program. Ensure maintenance of the food service facility and equipment in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. Maintain safe work environment Maintain logs on all equipment maintenance required within school nutrition department Conduct annual physical equipment and supplies inventory. Ensure all established HACCP Guidelines and Procedures are followed. Ensure all established safety guidelines and procedures to ensure job safety are followed. Ensures all established state and federal regulations and complies with all established school nutrition and school policies are followed. Communicates positively with school nutrition employees, school staff, students, parents and visitors to establish a friendly and welcoming environment for dining Maintains a positive image of the school nutrition program. Help screen, select, and train cafeteria workers and make sound recommendations about the assignment, discipline, and retention of cafeteria personnel Responsible for overseeing time and attendance for peers and/or direct reports. Menu planning and creation in compliance with nutritional standards and guidelines Overseeing the preparation and serving of meals Supervising cafeteria staff and providing training when necessary Managing inventory and ordering food and kitchen supplies as needed Monitoring and managing the cafeteria budget and expenses Communicating with school administrators, parents, and students about food service matters Developing and implementing strategies to increase meal participation rates Maintaining records of meals served, food and supply costs, and any other relevant data Addressing and resolving complaints or concerns related to food quality or service Performs any other related duties assigned by the supervisor or other appropriate administrator. Education & Experience Required High School diploma or equivalent Minimum of 2 years of experience in a school cafeteria or similar food service environment Experience with institutional and/or commercial food service operations Must possess or be able to obtain Food manager certification Strong leadership and management skills to oversee cafeteria staff and operations efficiently. Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and hygiene standards to ensure all meals served are healthy and safe for consumption. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, and suppliers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school nutrition staff, other school staff, parents and community partners. Ability to read, write, understand and implement oral and written directions. Experience in budgeting and cost control to manage food and labor costs effectively. Ability to create menus that are nutritionally balanced and appealing to students. Problem-solving skills to deal with any issues that arise in the cafeteria promptly and effectively. Ability to understand and comply with local health and safety regulations and guidelines. Excellent organizational skills to plan and coordinate meal preparation and service. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask as needed. Demonstrated ability to perform intermediate cooking functions. Must possess the ability to operate a variety of food service equipment.
