TITLE: Web Designer
REPORTS TO: Marketing Director
STATUS: Non-exempt; part-time, 20 hours per week
LOCATION: Minneapolis, hybrid eligible
Job Summary
The Web Designer is responsible for design, build, improvement, and updating MacPhail.org and sub-brand web pages in collaboration with program and marketing staff resulting in an exciting and user friendly experience while adhering to MacPhail’s design standards and specifications. This position updates website content and reviews SEO. As part of the marketing team, the position supports other marketing functions if needed and time allows.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops and maintains website pages, forms, and structures in accordance with the organization’s needs; collaborates closely with marketing staff and other invested leadership staff.
Encourages and facilitates consistent, creative, fresh, accurate, unified, and user friendly web design.
Collects and analyzes web analytics and similar data; identifies opportunities to improve search engine optimization (SEO), time on site, web traffic, and other relevant metrics.
Maintains current knowledge of best practices and emerging developments in web design, web development, and technology.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education. Degree or specialization in computer, interaction, or graphic design (with web emphasis) or equivalent experience.
Experience. 1-2 years of experience as a webmaster with graphic design skills demonstrated by a strong portfolio.
Knowledge and Skills
Required - WordPress and Adobe Design Suite proficiency. Basic HTML understanding. Solid experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and sitemaps. Knowledge of web analytics and SEO. Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical abilities. Up-to-date with the latest web trends, techniques, and technologies. Excellent organization and communication (verbal and written) skills. Great attention to detail. Strong graphic design skills. Understands and resolves cross-cultural conflicts effectively.
Preferred - Experience with other design software like Figma or Sketch. A basic understanding of CSS and understanding of JavaScript concepts is a plus.
Abilities. Exceptional ability to generate fresh and exciting creative ideas. Ability to collaborate and maintain confidentiality. Awareness of one’s own and other’s social identities. Capable of handling multiple tasks and varying workloads under tight deadlines. Work a flexible schedule, occasionally including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Physical Demands. Sitting up to 4 hours at a time. Typing for up to 4 hours at a time. Virtual meetings online for up to 2 hours at a time. Infrequent lifting and carrying of up to 25 lbs.
